Congregation Emanuel’s well-loved rabbi to be honored
Rabbi Eichhorn supervises Dave Kantor’s bar mitzvah in 1974.

Congregants of Kingston’s Temple Emanuel and guests will celebrate the life of former temple Rabbi Jonathan Eichhorn on Sunday, Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. at the shule on 243 Albany Avenue. Eichhorn, who served Congregation Emanuel for 36 years before retiring in 2001, died at the age of 80 at his retirement home in Maryland on May 15.

A founder of the Ulster Religious Council, which welcomed all faiths, Eichhorn was also a chaplain at the Greene Correctional facility near Coxsackie.

Well regarded as a clergyman of consciousness, Rabbi Eichhorn was cited by then-Temple president Cappy Weiner at a testimonial in his honor in April of 2001. “Rabbi Jonathan Eichhorn has left a congregation that is proud to have known him,” Weiner wrote. “He has left his temple, his Jewish people and his entire community a better place simply because he has touched us all.”

The late rabbi’s widow Suzanne, their three children and grandchildren will be in attendance. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome.

Further information is available from Congregation Cantor Robert Cohen at (845) 338-6180.
