Jazz in the Valley has built a world-class jazz event out of its Jazz in the Valley Festival, which returns to Poughkeepsie’s Waryas Park on Sunday, August 20. Located alongside the Walkway over the Hudson and next to the Hudson River, the Festival’s lineups speak to the long and continuously evolving river of jazz history, past, present and future.
This year’s headliners include jazz royalty in trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis, the revered modern jazz pianist Cyrus Chestnut, saxophonist Javon Jackson, bassist Christopher Dean Sullivan, pianist Elio Villafranca, pianist/vocalist Mala Waldron, vibraphonist Steve Nelson, drummer Jeff “Siege” Siegel and percussion master Neil Clarke. In keeping with the Festival’s overarching philosophy, jazz from the most traditional to the most progressive and experimental is brought together as part of one great multifarious tradition.
General admission tickets cost $50 in advance and $60 at the gate. Students with valid ID gain entrance for $20. Tickets can be purchased online through the Festival’s website or in person at Blue-Byrd’s Haberdashery & Music, located at 320 Wall Street in Kingston.
