FEMA to open mobile office in New Paltz

People in New Paltz still reeling from the flood damage caused by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee will get a helping hand early next week when the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Mobile Disaster Recovery Center sets up shop at Town Hall.

FEMA and state officials plan to open up on Monday, Oct. 10, to help out any one person, family or business impacted by the storms. The mobile unit will stay there until Wednesday, Oct. 12 and it will be open those three days from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Registering for help first is something that could speed things along for you, according to FEMA Federal Coordinating Officer Philip E. Parr. “Before visiting a recovery center, I strongly recommend people seeking assistance to register with FEMA,” he said in a press release.

To register, you’ll need the address of the property that was damaged, the names of the people living in that household, some description of the damage and the Social Security number for anyone living there. Folks from the Small Business Administration will also be at the center to help give non-profits and local shops apply for a low-interest loan for storm repairs.

People looking to register with FEMA can do so by phone at 1-800-621-3362 or online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov.

New Paltz Town Hall is located at 1 Veterans Drive, off of North Chestnut Street.
