On the evening of October 16, at around 6:08 p.m., state troopers from the Ellenville barracks observed a 2013 Hyundai committing a traffic violation on North Main Street in the Village of Ellenville. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver, identified as 41-year-old Nicole C. Petrone of Wallkill, was the only occupant. During the course of the investigation, troopers determined that Petrone was operating the vehicle with a suspended license, and the vehicle itself was unregistered.
A search of the vehicle followed, resulting in the discovery of a Sig Sauer P365 .380 caliber semiautomatic handgun, along with two magazines, all of which were in her possession illegally. Petrone was taken into custody and brought to the state police station in Ellenville for processing without incident.
She now faces multiple charges, including criminal use of a firearm in the second degree, a class C felony, and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree for possessing an ammunition feeding device, a class D felony. Additionally, she was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree, an unclassified misdemeanor, along with several traffic violations. Following arraignment at the Wawarsing town court, Petrone was released under pretrial supervision in place of bail as she awaits future court proceedings.
