Ulster County DA’s office investigates complaints against Saugerties police officer Dion Johnson

Two people from Connecticut were killed early Thursday morning in a head-on collision on Kings Highway in Saugerties. According to local authorities, the crash occurred around 5:27 a.m. on October 9, when a southbound vehicle crossed into the opposite lane and struck an oncoming truck. The driver of the vehicle that crossed lanes and his 61-year-old female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene, while the other driver sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Police said a 2023 Toyota Corolla, driven by a 65-year-old man from Waterbury, Connecticut, veered into the northbound lane and collided with a 2022 Ford F-150 operated by a 19-year-old from Lake Katrine. Emergency responders from multiple agencies arrived to find both vehicles in the northbound lane. The names of the deceased have not been released.

The crash resulted in the temporary closure of Kings Highway. The investigation is being led by the Saugerties Police Department in coordination with the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office. No charges or citations have been issued at this time. Assistance at the scene was provided by several agencies including the state police, Mount Marion Fire Department, Centerville Cedar-Grove Fire District, Diaz Ambulance, and the Ulster County Medical Examiner’s Office.
