Drugs, ghost gun found during Thruway traffic stop in Plattekill, police say

Drugs and a ghost gun were found during a Thruway traffic stop on the morning of August 25, state police said.

At around 11:40 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on a 2008 Jeep traveling on Interstate 87 in the Town of Plattekill. During the stop, troopers identified the driver as 25-year-old Jessiah J. Haynes and the front seat passenger as 31-year-old Ashley L. Guilder, both residents of Amsterdam, NY. Authorities determined that Haynes was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.

A New York State Police K9 unit performed an exterior search of the vehicle, which resulted in a positive alert for narcotics. A subsequent search led to the discovery of approximately 149 grams of cocaine and an unregistered Polymer 80 9mm semi-automatic handgun, commonly referred to as a “ghost gun.”

Further investigation revealed that Guilder was in possession of roughly 0.4 grams of crack cocaine and 13.2 grams of suboxone.

Both individuals were taken into custody and transported to the State Police Thruway station in Newburgh for processing.

Haynes is facing multiple charges, including second- and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, possession of a firearm, and operating a motor vehicle without a valid license. He was also issued several traffic citations.

Guilder has been charged with similar offenses, including second- and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, multiple weapons charges, and two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Following arraignment at the Ulster County Jail Central Arraignment Part, both were remanded without bail. The investigation remains ongoing.
