Developers seeking to build a wholesale linen warehouse and distribution hub in Shokan are facing an uphill battle as numerous residents continue to voice opposition at Olive Planning Board meetings.
The 100,000 square foot project on 149 acres situated at 167 DuBois Road (formerly Woodstock Chimes) would be a major expansion for KSE Suppliers, a company based in Hillburn that specializes in “institutional linen” used by hospitals, hotels, jails and other fabric-hungry enterprises.
Chief concerns voiced by locals include increased truck traffic near homes and bus stops, along with potential negative environmental impacts at a site that is already contaminated.
KSE told the Planning Board they expect around 10 on-site employees initially, with a few more jobs possible in following years. Woodstock Chimes employed approximately 125 people.
The matter will come up again for discussion at the September 2 meeting, and will be looked at by the Ulster County Planning Board before an official vote takes place.
