The Ulster County Fair will run July 29 to August 3 with barns full of livestock, live music (including the legendary Chubby Checker on Wednesday, July 30 at 8pm), and lots of indulgent food.
There will be midway rides as usual, but that’s where the big change comes in. Unlike in previous years where rides were included with the admission price, the Ulster County Fair has joined its peers in charging extra for the privilege of being tossed around by heavy machinery ($1.50 per ride, with discounts available). Admission to the fair is $15, with discounts available.
The Ulster County Fair — along with its big brother the Dutchess County Fair — remain popular despite being an increasingly expensive proposition. Where else will you find racing pigs, an agriculture game show, chainsaw carving, barns full of impressively-sized produce, a baby beauty pageant and the legendary 4-H milkshake? Sounds like a steal when you put it that way. For many, the Ulster County Fair is simply priceless.
Visitors will be treated to a fireworks show at dusk on Wednesday, July 30. Visit Ulster County Fair’s website for all the details.
