A sure sign it’s the end of July in Woodstock is the annual library fair, and this year is no different. The 94th annual fair on the library lawn runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. thus Saturday, July 26.
Festivities kick off around 9:45 with a children’s parade down Comeau Drive and across Tinker Street to the library lawn, followed by the official fair opening with a maypole dance.
Back again this year is Tapped into The Catskills with a beer and wine trailer so fairgoers can enjoy some imbibement as they take in the festivities.
Food aplenty will be available with order and pickup along Library Lane.
Pathways from food pickup will lead people into an area with tables where they can enjoy the food generously donated by area establishments — including ice cream from Stewart’s.
Along Library Lane is what has been dubbed Nonprofit Row, where various organizations distribute information about a variety of causes.
The big clothing tent will return, with bargains galore.
“People in Woodstock are very generous with their clothes and their books,” said fair director and and Friends of the Library president Michael Hunt. “They give them to us, and then we sell them to everyone every year.”
The main stage on the lawn at the corner of Library Lane and Tinker Street will feature music all day long.
Fair staples are returning: the bounce house, water slide for the kids, hat making and face painting. A second stage will feature entertainment for kids.
And who can forget the Great Expectations raffle, with many prizes from area businesses, including restaurant gift certificates and weekend getaways?
Entry to the fair is a suggested $2 donation, but nobody will be turned away if they cannot pay. Kids’ attractions like carnival games and face painting are an additional charge for a wristband, with a discount for multiple children.
