A knife-wielding man who tried to break into a home in Ellenville and stab its occupants was arrested on Tuesday, July 22.
Police said Brian “Sosa” Centura, 27, of Ellenville, brought a large knife to a home at 6 Mill Street at approximately 5:50am, and proceeded to climb onto a porch roof. He then removed a security camera that was mounted on the exterior of the home and shattered a window with the intent of forcibly entering the building.
The building’s occupants confronted the intruder, who then began to stab at them through the window with his knife. When a resident called 911, Centura fled the scene, according to police.
The suspect was located and arrested a short while later on Rt. 209 at the Valero gas station.
Police said that once the suspect was apprehended, he provided a statement regarding his attempted burglary. Officials recovered the knife and the security camera.
Ventura faces charges of felony burglary and the misdemeanors of criminal possession of a weapon, criminal mischief, and criminal possession of stolen property. He was sent to Ulster County Jail and awaits his court date.
