A Rhode Island man has pleaded guilty to stealing over $55,000 from ATMs across New York, Massachusetts, and Kentucky, federal prosecutors announced this week.
David Degrasse, 59, of West Warwick, admitted to using a saw to break into ATMs at six small businesses, including a Catskill restaurant where he took approximately $9,300. He agreed to forfeit that amount and pay restitution as part of a plea deal.
Degrasse also admitted to cutting alarm wires at a convenience store in Hillsdale before abandoning that attempt to target the Catskill location. Other thefts occurred in Pine Plains, Walden, and Lenox in New York, as well as in Concord, Massachusetts, and Bagdad, Kentucky.
He was arrested after a theft in Madison County, New York, where surveillance footage helped the FBI identify him. Degrasse faces up to 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and up to three years of supervised release.
