New Paltz police officer indicted on range of charges

Jerome Milton, a 28-year-old New Paltz police officer, has been indicted on charges including official misconduct, offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, filing a false instrument in the second degree, harassment in the first degree, and stalking in the fourth degree. He was arraigned in Ulster County Court and released on his own recognizance.

Milton is accused of harassing and stalking a former girlfriend and conducting an unjustified traffic stop on her current partner. The resulting citation was filed in town court and entered into DMV records. These actions allegedly occurred while Milton was on duty.

The case is being prosecuted by District Attorney Emmanuel C. Nneji and Administrative ADA Sajaa S. Ahmed. Milton is represented by attorney Yvonne Garbett.

“This is a sad but necessary step in reiterating and reinforcing that public office may not be used to abuse anyone or to hide from criminal conduct for which others are routinely prosecuted,” said Nneji.
