Starting Monday, June 9, New York State Police will be on the lookout for speeders and cars that don’t move over for cops, and the enforcement surge will continue through Sunday, June 15.
In 2023 alone, there were 307 deadly accidents and over 11,000 injury crashes linked to speeding, according to data from the Institute for Traffic Safety Management and Research at the University at Albany.
Troopers will be in marked and unmarked vehicles, looking for speeders, distracted or impaired drivers, seatbelt violations, and anyone failing to move over for emergency or service vehicles.
During last year’s “Speed Week”, which took place in early June 2024, troopers issued more than 22,000 traffic tickets. Over 11,000 of those were for speeding, and nearly 600 were for violations of the Move Over law.
