The Hudson Valley is populated by its fair share of ice cream stands, roadside diners and breweries with large outdoor spaces and live music. Miraculously, there’s one establishment that manages to combine and elevate all these elements into one attraction: Del’s Roadside in Rhinebeck.
First of all, the ice cream here is “cow to cone”, straight from Del’s own small batch creamery, made with locally sourced milk. Yes, it’s as good as you’re imagining. Word has gotten out – more and more area retailers are starting to stock it.
If Del’s was just ice cream, it would still be a destination, but the food and drink menu here is equally as impressive and delicious. Burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs, french fries and other roadside classics are made to order and are a cut above what you’d expect from an ice cream stand. Boozy milkshakes and beer round out the menu, a rarity among establishments like this.
The cherry on top is Del’s sprawling outdoor area where kids can run around, cornhole bags can be tossed, and visitors can stretch out in the sun. It’s such a good space for live music that Del’s has steadily increased the number of performances it hosts, and this season they’re putting on over half a dozen Thursday evening shows with local bands like Undercover Band, Save the Clocktower, The Local Jam, Willi Amrod Band, Soul City and Wyld Blu Duo. The full schedule can be viewed at delsdairyfarm.com. The shows happen at their 6780 Albany Post Road location in Rhinebeck from 6-8pm, with the following Thursday reserved as a rain date. This Thursday, June 5th is the first show on their schedule, featuring Painted Blue Sky.
Del’s embodies what the Hudson Valley is all about – enjoying the outdoors, listening to local live music, and indulging in top-shelf, locally-sourced food and drink.
