An employee of the Kingston City School District was arrested on April 16 under a charge of unlawful surveillance, according to a statement issued by school officials today, May 9. That individual was placed on unpaid leave. For legal reasons, the school is not releasing their identity at this time.
According to police records, Kingston resident Alan Depace, 23, was arrested on April 16 following a January 15 incident report. Depace is listed as a cleaner at J. Watson Bailey middle school on the school website.
The KCSD statement offered further details, clarifying that the currently alleged crime occurred off premises:
“The employee has not been charged with any crimes involving any of our students or any incidents that took place on school grounds,” it read, adding that officials are “closely monitoring the situation and remain committed to the safety and well-being of our students.”
According to officials, it is alleged that Depace possessed a large number of illicit and non-consensually taken media files, including those of children under the age of 16. It is also alleged he installed a device to capture such images.
On June 10, Depace is expected to return to court to address the charges.
“The Kingston City School District is cooperating fully with both the New York State Police and the City of Kingston Police Department,” the statement read.
