The Kingston Police Department’s Traffic Safety unit has issued 801 tickets and 297 warnings from over 820 traffic stops since mid-January, according to Chief Egidio Tinti. The two-officer unit has also made 22 arrests and responded to 31 crashes, primarily operating during peak weekday hours and weekends.
Tinti noted that 53% of tickets were given to local city residents. The unit has focused on key areas, including Washington Avenue and school zones.
Citywide, police have conducted 1,400 stops this year, issuing 1,129 tickets and 561 warnings. Tinti believes the enforcement is improving driver behavior, particularly as more pedestrians and cyclists take to the streets with warmer weather.
