On the night of March 5, at approximately 9:39 p.m., State Police troopers patrolling Smith Avenue in Kingston, NY, encountered a 39-year-old woman in need of assistance.
Authorities determined that the woman had been inside her residence earlier that evening when a guest, identified as 42-year-old Michael E. Rodriguez of Connelly, left the apartment and returned about 30 minutes later. Upon his return, Rodriguez allegedly became agitated and attempted to seize the woman’s phone. A physical altercation followed, during which police say he forcibly took the device and later damaged her laptop. The woman managed to leave the residence, where police later found her, while Rodriguez fled the scene.
A warrant was subsequently issued for Rodriguez’s arrest. On March 11, he surrendered to authorities and was taken into custody. He now faces multiple charges, including:
– Third-degree criminal mischief (felony) for causing property damage exceeding $250
– Criminal mischief (misdemeanor) for intentionally damaging property
– Third-degree robbery (felony)
Rodriguez was arraigned in Ulster County Court and is being held at the Ulster County Jail.
