Authorities in Kingston have taken a Poughkeepsie man into custody, charging him with rape and sex-motivated strangulation following an ongoing investigation.
John R. Warren, 34, was apprehended on Grant Street at approximately 5:30 a.m. on Friday, March 7, according to police records. He faces felony charges for allegedly raping a physically helpless individual and engaging in strangulation with a sexual motive.
The Kingston Police Department launched an inquiry into the incident in December 2024. Over the course of the investigation, law enforcement officials reportedly gathered sufficient evidence to charge Warren, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant.
The warrant was carried out in Poughkeepsie on March 7, resulting in Warren’s arrest. Following his arraignment in Kingston City Court, he was remanded to Ulster County Jail, with bail set at $50,000.
