Marybeth Majestic has served as the Town of Gardiner supervisor since 2016 and was seeking the Democratic nomination for a sixth term. But on February 13, the Gardiner Democratic Committee voted to endorse Michael Hartner for town supervisor in this year’s election. Following the committee’s announcement, Majestic decided to end her campaign for reelection and has announced her retirement.
In a press release, the Gardiner Democratic Committee expressed its gratitude to Supervisor Majestic and wished her the best in the future.
Among the many accomplishments of Majestic’s administration was the challenging task of upgrading the town’s antiquated financial management system. Other especially noteworthy accomplishments include the replacement of the Clove Road Bridge, improvements to Majestic Park such as the new pavilion, basketball court and pump/skateboard station. Supervisor Majestic’s support and assistance was key in creating the Gardiner Trail Alliance trail system, the Community Preservation Fund, the electric vehicle charging station and plans to install solar panels on town hall.
The Gardiner Democratic Committee also endorsed Roberta Clements for town board, Brian Stiscia for highway supervisor and Robert Rich for town justice. Elections will be held on November 4 and the elected representatives will take office on January 1, 2026.
Hartner, a Gardiner resident since 2014, is currently a town board member, elected in November 2023. “Having seen Gardiner operations from so many different vantage points in recent years, I’ve acquired an abundance of institutional knowledge and insights into areas that could be improved for the benefit of Gardiner residents,” said Hartner. “Aside from my town board experience, I have been the town environmental conservation chair, board of assessment review co-chair, ethics board member and chair of the drinking water protection committee. “I also contributed significantly to the revision of the current comprehensive plan and assisted with various tasks related to adoption of the community preservation Program.” Hartner intends to seek and implement town cost-saving measures, balance the impacts of development and the community’s welfare, improve employee recruitment practices for employee and committee assignments and accelerate the town’s pursuit of grant monies.
Debra Clinton is also running for a second term as Ulster County Legislator for District 16.
