On the night of Feb. 17, around 10:58pm, New York state troopers responded to a panic alarm at Stewart’s Shop, located at 6331 Route 209 in the Town of Wawarsing.
According to the initial investigation, a man entered the store armed with a firearm. He was reportedly dressed in a gray hoodie, dark pants, white sneakers, and a blue ski mask. The suspect allegedly confronted a female employee, pointed the weapon at her back, and demanded cash, threatening violence if she failed to comply. After obtaining the money, the suspect fled the scene.
Two days later, on Feb. 19, 2025, authorities identified the suspect as Thomas E. Miller, a 55-year-old resident of Kerhonkson, NY. He was taken into custody and charged with first-degree robbery involving forcible theft while armed with a deadly weapon, classified as a class E felony. He also faced a second-degree charge for criminal possession of a loaded firearm, a class C felony.
Miller was arraigned in Ulster County CAP Court and subsequently held at Ulster County Jail. Bail was set at $100,000 in cash or a $200,000 bond.
