According to Red Hook Police, things got a little too spicy at Cancun’s Mexican Restaurant last Wednesday, Feb. 19, leading to the arrest of a man who witnesses said brandished a knife while making threats.
On Wednesday evening, police responded to a report of an altercation at the Red Hook restaurant on South Broadway. According to witness accounts, a man entered the restaurant and became involved in a verbal dispute with a female employee. The situation escalated when the man allegedly displayed a knife and made threats toward the woman.
Both individuals left the restaurant on foot as the confrontation continued. Police patrols located them shortly afterward on East Market Street. Following an investigation, authorities arrested 55-year-old Justino Romero of Red Hook. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, menacing, and harassment, all classified as misdemeanors.
Romero was processed and arraigned in Village Court. In accordance with New York State bail reform laws, he was released on his own recognizance and given a future court appearance date.
