Town of Esopus residents should be vigilant about locking their vehicles and homes, according to county police.
“In the past 4 days, the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office has received reports of a residential burglary and several larcenies from vehicles on Union Center Road and surrounding areas in the Town of Esopus,” read a Facebook post on Jan. 7. Police noted they had opened criminal investigations into each report.
Other news outlets erroneously framed the warning as county-wide, when in fact it was localized to the Town of Esopus.
In addition to locking vehicles and removing valuables from vehicles, police suggested parking in a well-lit area and keeping your keys with you. They also encouraged residents to lock the doors and windows of their home, install a security system and motion sensor lights, and keep valuables out of sight.
Anyone witnessing suspicious behavior was urged to call 911 or the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office at 845-338-3640.
