Kingston’s own Zack Short is taking the next step in his professional baseball career, signing a minor league contract with the Houston Astros for the 2025 season. The deal includes an invitation to major league spring training, giving the 29-year-old infielder a chance to compete for a spot on one of baseball’s most successful franchises.
Short’s journey to this point has been remarkable. A graduate of Kingston High School’s Class of 2013, he made a name for himself as a standout shortstop at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut, earning All-Northeast Conference honors. His strong collegiate performance led to him being selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 17th round of the 2016 MLB Draft.
Since then, Short has worked hard to carve out a role in professional baseball. He had his MLB debut in 2021, and over the past four years, he has appeared in parts of four MLB seasons, primarily with the Detroit Tigers, showcasing his versatility as a utility infielder capable of handling multiple positions. While his offensive numbers have been modest, his defensive skills and work ethic have kept him in the mix at the big-league level.
Short’s connection to Kingston remains strong. Just days before signing with the Astros, he celebrated another major milestone, marrying his wife Fallon in a ceremony in Connecticut. The couple, both former Sacred Heart athletes, tied the knot at Rolling Hills Country Club, marking the beginning of a new chapter both personally and professionally.
Now, Short heads to Houston with a chance to make an impact on a team that consistently contends for championships. His hometown of Kingston will undoubtedly be rooting for him as he takes the field this spring, continuing to represent the Hudson Valley on baseball’s biggest stage.
