A recent recruit to the Hillside Fire Department, which serves Rhinebeck and Hyde Park, has been accused by the New York State Police of making five false incident reports over a four-day period around Christmas 2024.
On December 28, 2024, the Hillside Fire Department’s Chief alerted police to the series of allegedly false emergency reports made to Dutchess County 911. An investigation revealed that Cyril Uebbing, 23, a newly inducted member of the Hillside Fire Department, was responsible for the deceptive calls.
Authorities linked Uebbing to several fraudulent reports made from a cell phone to Dutchess County 911, including:
- December 23, 2024, 1:57pm: A report of black smoke emanating from a chimney at Southlands Farm, 5771 Route 9, Town of Rhinebeck.
- December 24, 2024, 10:38am: A report of an outdoor sulfur odor near Primrose Hill Road and Ackert Hook Road in the Town of Rhinebeck. The phone number used was traced back to Uebbing.
- December 24, 2024, 2:30pm: A claim of an ATV stuck in a ditch near Mill Road and Lynwood Road in Rhinebeck. This case was referred to the New York State Police but was found to be baseless.
- December 24, 2024, 6:44pm: A report of smoke near Albany Post Road and Old Route 9, in the Habitat on the Hudson area.
- December 26, 2024, 12:07pm: A report of a gas odor outside 31 Riverview Drive and Mill Road in Rhinebeck.
On December 30, 2024, Uebbing, a 23-year-old Rhinebeck resident, was arrested and charged with five counts of falsely reporting an incident in the second degree, classified as a class “E” felony. He was issued an appearance ticket and is set to appear in Rhinebeck Town Court on Jan. 8, 2025.
