Hurley election choices

Though Deb Dougherty and Joe Letendre are running unopposed on the November 5 ballot for the Hurley town board, Tim Kelly is trying to win back his seat on that board as a write-in candidate.

Dougherty was appointed by the town board in December 2023 to fill the seat left vacant by Jana Martin, who resigned. Dougherty, who is retired from IBM, has been instrumental in the formation of a paid ambulance district.

Joseph D. Letendre is in his final year of a three-year term on the West Hurley Library board. He ran unsuccessfully for a seat on the Onteora School Board in 2021.

Tim Kelly lost the Democratic primary and has decided to run as a write-in candidate for the town board. He was appointed by the town board in January to fill the seat vacated when Mike Boms became supervisor.

Meanwhile, Lynne Bailey is running unopposed for town clerk. In the June Democratic primary, Bailey, a former deputy clerk, triumphed over Tracy Kellogg, who had been appointed clerk to replace Annie Reed, who resigned shortly after winning re-election in November. Kellogg is not seeking election on another party line or as a write-in.

Nick Henderson was raised in Woodstock starting at the age of three and attended Onteora schools, then SUNY New Paltz after spending a year at SUNY Potsdam under the misguided belief he would become a music teacher. He became the news director at college radio station WFNP, where he caught the journalism bug and the rest is history. He spent four years as City Hall reporter for Foster’s Daily Democrat in Dover, NH, then moved back to Woodstock in 2003 and worked on the Daily Freeman copy desk until 2013. He has covered Woodstock for Ulster Publishing since early 2014.
