Woodstock budget proposal
Woodstock town supervisor Bill McKenna has presented a $9,784,733 combined general and highway budget for 2025, with a 2.49 percent increase in the tax levy.
General-fund spending is up 5.7 percent, highway spending 0.8 percent,
Combined spending for general, highway and all special districts is $10,509,595. Surplus funds of $325,000 were used to offset tax increases in the proposed budget.
The library and fire levies are their own separate districts with autonomous governing bodies.
“There wasn’t anything too specific that raised the rates,” McKenna said in his budget message October 1. “There was a little bit here and there. Energy costs have gone up slightly. It’s going to be a little difficult next year because of the switching over from fossil fuels up here, one of the last buildings, and the water/sewer plant.”
The offices on Comeau Drive have switched to a new HVAC system as part of an ongoing renovation, and an aging furnace at the wastewater treatment plant was switched to heat pumps.
Budget workshops involving the town board and various department heads are scheduled for October 8 and 10.
Supervisor McKenna will be paid $77,272, and highway superintendent Don Allen $77,272. Councilmembers will get $12,790 each. Most other employees will receive three-percent raises.
Public hearings for the water, on-site and hamlet sewer districts are scheduled for October 22 at 7:05, 7:10 and 7:15 p.m. respectively at the town offices, 45 Comeau Drive.
