It was a weather-perfect day for strolling Fair Street in uptown Kingston to view the 19th annual volunteer Fireman’s Hall and Museum’s Antique Fire Engine Muster on Saturday, August 10. The fire trucks lined the street in front of the museum while the volunteers distributed red fireman’s hats to children and were available to answer questions from the public. The free hot dogs were a big hit! There were also free tours inside the museum, as well as raffles and a silent auction of gift baskets.
According to Mark Berthiaume, the museum’s president, the oldest vehicle on display was a 1929 fire truck owned by the Port Ewen Fire Department. The newest one is from the Sawkill Fire Department that is still an active truck. A 1934 Sanford and a 1956 LaFrance were also on display. A couple of the trucks were owned by private collectors.
The event ended with a parade of fire engines to the Spring Lake Fire House, followed by a special celebration for participants.
