Those black cylindrical train cars constantly criss-crossing Kingston and other local towns are colloquially called bomb trains because of rare but devastating incidents like the 2013 rail disaster Lac-Mégantic, Quebec. Multiple freight train cars full of crude oil exploded, killing 47 and destroying a large swath of the city. Bomb Trains on the Hudson by filmmaker Jon Bowermaster explores this threat in our region, and it will screen this coming Tuesday along with his PCBs: A Toxic Legacy documentary. It’s all part of Amnesty International Mid-Hudson’s 10th Annual Social Justice Fundraiser, which will also feature live music from Rosendale Brass Band and a panel discussion with experts moderated by Bowermaster himself.
