The Woodstock Public Library received a bomb threat via email Sunday morning, June 9, apparently in response to a drag-story hour held the previous day.
The subject line, addressed to a specific staff member, was “We will kill you.”
Though the library is closed on Sundays, a weekly women’s Alcoholics Anonymous group was meeting in the building.
The email from an unfamiliar address stated, “We placed a bomb in the library that will detonate soon — fuck you and your drag queens.”
The staff member called library director Ivy Gocker, who called the Woodstock police
Woodstock police, who were setting up for the pride parade nearby, evacuated the building and cordoned off Library Lane. State police, assisted by a bomb-sniffing dog from, the Saugerties police, searched the premises and found nothing suspicious.
Gocker said the Saturday drag-story hour had been held without incident.
She also found it strange the email targeted a specific staffer.
Last year, members of the public filled the room when the library board met to approve the first drag-story hours. Almost all who attended were in support. The few who disagreed did so in a civil manner.
Gocker asked the Woodstock police to have an officer present as a precaution when the library opened on Monday. Town supervisor Bill McKenna asked anyone with possible information about the threat to call the police at 845-679-2422.
