The annual local ingredient chili challenge was held on Saturday, March 16 at Water Street Market in New Paltz. According to organizer Theresa Fall, the event brought in  $2,569 from ticket sales and it will be matched by a generous donor, so a record-breaking $5,000 was raised! All proceeds will go to the St. Joseph’s non-denominational food pantry, which is in dire need of supplies to feed hundreds of local families. The event was dedicated to Fall’s mother, Marcy Fall, who passed away in February of 2022.

“I can’t thank everyone enough for the success of the chili challenge,” said Theresa Fall in a Facebook post. “The volunteers, the participants, the judges and the giant crowd of supportive chili eaters! We had the best weather we have ever had. My mama is smiling down on our community.”

The winners were: Most creative — Seth and Ana Vangasbeek, runner-up Bradley Farms.

Best vegetarian — Wildflower Farms, runner-up The Mudd Puddle.

People’s choice, Seth and Ana Vangasbeek, runner-up Cub Scout Troop 172.

Best professional —  The Parish Restaurant, runner-up Huckleberry.

“Thanks to the community for coming out in such high spirits and helping to raise money for the St. Joseph’s Food Pantry,” said Fall. “I heard over and over again, there isn’t a bad chili in the bunch!”
