“Located in the heart of uptown Kingston, St. Joseph’s Parish Complex is an ecclesiastical campus erected over the course of more than a century that showcases a rich variety of architectural styles and building types designed by locally (and sometimes nationally) prominent architects,” says the state recommendation this past week to add the property to the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
The listing makes St. Joe’s, a Catholic church originally built for a Dutch Reformed congregation, eligible for various public preservation programs and incentives, such as matching state grants and federal and state historic rehabilitation tax credits. Other buildings on the campus, built in different periods, add to the variety of architectural styles.
