Woodstock officials will talk about Comeau bond and renovation project

Woodstockers can learn about the proposed $2.9 million town office renovation project and meet their elected officials during firehouse meetings for the next couple Wednesdays.

With voters being asked at the November 2 election to approve borrowing $1 million for the project (the remaining $1.9 million would come from the town’s capital reserve fund), meetings to provide information are scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 7 at Fire Co. No. 3, 4123 Route 212 in Lake Hill, and at 7 p.m. Wednesday October 13 at Company 2, 367 Wittenberg Road, Bearsville.

A model of the project will be on display and Town Supervisor Bill McKenna and other Town Board members will discuss the project, which involves renovating the former home at 45 Comeau Drive and the nearby Supervisor’s Cottage.

An addition would be constructed so all offices can move to the first floor and be accessible to the disabled. The building would be fitted with a new HVAC and energy-efficient windows. Heavy file cabinets would be moved to the first floor to take the load off the second floor, which is sagging under the weight.

The Supervisor’s Cottage would get remodeled to become energy efficient and the floors will be brought to one level to make it safer for the public.

While officials will discuss the renovation, attendees may bring up any other topic of town concern.

He became the news director at college radio station WFNP, where he caught the journalism bug and the rest is history. He spent four years as City Hall reporter for Foster’s Daily Democrat in Dover, NH, then moved back to Woodstock in 2003 and worked on the Daily Freeman copy desk until 2013. He has covered Woodstock for Ulster Publishing since early 2014.
