Lifespring keeps growing in Saugerties

Lifespring, the Saugerties adult learning community, keeps blooming. Lifespring president Susan Puretz and Laura Phillips, registrar and task force coordinator, recently presented a plant and planter to Jennifer Russell, director of the Saugerties Public Library in celebration of both the efforts of the Task Force for Online Learning at Lifespring and in recognition of the important role of continuing education in our lives.

Help Saugerties Animal Shelter

The Saugerties Public Library is holding a drive to collect donations for the Saugerties Animal Shelter from October 1 to 16. Please bring donations of cat food, cat litter, bedding, sheets, towels, blankets, cat and dog toys, paper towels and wipes to the Library. located at 91 Washington Avenue.

Every year during the Great Give Back, public libraries across the state work with their communities to give back.

Mum Festival in Saugerties October 10

The 56th annual Mum Festival will be held on Sunday, October 10 from noon to 5 p.m. at Seamon Park in Saugerties. This year will mark the 111th anniversary of Seamon Park, named after John Seamon, who generously donated the park to the Village of Saugerties in 1809.

Wander Seamon Park’s paths, take in its views, visit the bandstands and fountains and enjoy the thousands of mums on display. The festivities will include the Mum Queen and her court presenting flowers, courtesy of the Saugerties Society of Little Gardens, live music (band and chorus), an art show, children’s’ activities, free horse rides, local vendors and refreshments.

The Mum Festival Committee is looking for new members. If you are interested, contact Jeannine Mayer at jmmayer@hvc.rr.com. The committee meets monthly from June until the festival date.

Seamon Park is located at 5 Malden Avenue in Saugerties.

Vacancy in Election District 4

The Saugerties Democratic Committee has one vacancy in Election District 4, which is located in the Village of Saugerties. While it is desirable that applicants reside in the District, it is not a requirement.

If you are interested in joining the Committee, you must be an enrolled Democrat who resides in the Town of Saugerties. If you wish to apply, contact committee chair Lanny Walter at lanny@lanywalter.com and you will be sent information about the process to apply for membership. If you are interested in knowing more about the Committee’s activities without joining, send Walter your e-mail and you will be placed in the e-mail blast.

Hydrant flushing continues in Saugerties

The Village of Saugerties Water Department, in conjunction with the Town Water Department, will begin to flush hydrants and blow-offs. This may result in discolored water. The work will continue throughout the weeks starting October 4, with most of the work being done during evening hours. If you have a problem, call the Town at (845) 246-8671 or the Village at (845) 246-8958, depending on your provider.

Fall Festival at Reformed Church of Saugerties

The Reformed Church of Saugerties will hold its Fall Festival on Saturday, October 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Church, located at 173 Main Street in Saugerties. The event will feature an indoor/outdoor yard sale, including household items, toys, books, furniture, mums and more.

Public notice for Saugerties residents

Village of Saugerties residents should be aware that a professional display of fireworks will take place on Saturday, October 9 at the beach side of the Hill Street Bridge. This ten-minute display is for a private event and will start at approximately 9 p.m. Public access to the bridge may be affected while the display is taking place. Residents are asked to be sure that your pets are secure and protected during this time.
