Mum Festival in Saugerties October 10
The 56th annual Mum Festival will be held on Sunday, October 10 from noon to 5 p.m. at Seamon Park in Saugerties. This year will mark the 111th anniversary of the park, named after John Seamon, who generously donated the land to the Village of Saugerties in 1809.
Wander Seamon Park’s paths, take in its views, visit the bandstands and fountains and enjoy the thousands of mums on display. The festivities will include the Mum Queen and her court presenting flowers, courtesy of the Saugerties Society of Little Gardens; live music (band and chorus), an art show, children’s’ activities, free horse rides, local vendors and refreshments.
The Mum Festival Committee is looking for new members. If interested, contact Jeannine Mayer at jmmayer@hvc.rr.com. The Committee meets monthly from June until the festival date.
Seamon Park is located at 5 Malden Avenue in Saugerties.

Dyslexia font at Saugerties Library
The Saugerties Public Library has purchased a collection of books printed with special fonts for anyone to read, but especially for those with dyslexia. These fonts are designed to assist readers with the visual challenge of the printed word. The shapes of the letters are unique, and there is more spacing between the letters and words. Books with this feature for children, teens and adults can be checked out by anyone in the Mid-Hudson Library System. These books were purchased with MHLS Outreach Grant funds.
Garlic Festival returns October 2-3
The Hudson Valley Garlic Festival is back, after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of last year’s event. The popular Festival returns to the Cantine Veterans’ Memorial Complex on Washington Avenue Extension on October 2 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and October 3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
While this year’s event will be a little bit smaller than years past, garlic fans can still browse between 175 and 180 vendors. The Festival also offers music and craft vendors.
The Garlic Festival serves as a major fundraiser for the Kiwanis Club’s many community service projects around the Town and Village. Advance ticket prices are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors aged 65+. Online ticket vouchers must be printed out and exchanged at the ticket booth for tickets. Tickets cost $10 at the gate. Children aged 12 and under get in free.
