Saugerties to offer public webcam access at the Glasco Mini Park

Saugerties to offer public webcam access at the Glasco Mini Park

Greg Chorvas, Town of Saugerties Superintendant of Town Parks and Buildings, said at a recent Town Board meeting that he hopes to offer those with login credentials to access one of the security cameras at the Glasco Mini Park and check weather conditions at the waterfront before heading out.

The weather conditions at the waterfront can be quite different than at the other end of Town like West Saugerties, and the camera facing the river would allow those who log in with the proper login and password to access the camera facing the river. “It would be the first time we would have a public webcam at one of our facilities.”

Chorvas said the Town is also able to offer public wifi at the park.

He said crews recently wrapped up the installation of cameras at the George J. Terpening Sr. Memorial Park in Malden and said the camera system has also helped officials catch the perpetrators behind some recent instances of vandalism at Town parks. The incidents include the theft of several playground components from JayCee Field in Barclay Heights and the smashing of soap dispensers at the large pavilion and grandstand at Cantine Field.

Chorvas estimated the replacements for the playground equipment, soap dispensers and staff hours to install the new equipment equaled approximately $1,600.
