Bringing students back into classrooms four days a week is on track, but for the lack of response by parents of New Paltz High School students to a survey about preferences for their children. Superintendent Angela Urbina-Medina confirmed at the April 7 school board meeting that Duzine students will be returning on April 12, followed by the Lenape students April 15 and middle and high school students April 26. An online guide has been released with all the details.
The biggest logistical challenge is that administrators still don’t know whether a large chunk of high school students will be coming back or continuing with remote learning, because their parents or guardians just haven’t bothered to respond. This means that in the high school, a lot of professional time is being devoted to trying to get an answer to that question.
Quarantining will still be necessary whenever exposure is documented. The way the bureaucracy works now, ten-day quarantines will go into effect after any exposure, but district officials can apply for an individual’s quarantine to be released by providing proof of vaccination.
