The period for comments on the muddy water being discharged from New York City’s Ashokan Reservoir has been extended, and Saugerties will remain active in the effort to improve the quality of the Esopus Creek, which was recently inundated with muddy water from the overflow of New York City’s Reservoir. Supervisor Fred Costello spoke on behalf of the town and the Village of Saugerties at the first session of the Department of Environmental Protection’s public review of the reservoir on February 5, and he said at the March 17 Town Board meeting, he will continue to press for improvements in the city’s oversight.
