While the Town of Gardiner mulls the specifics of a proposed local law to create a Conservation Advisory Council (CAC) to replace the Environmental Conservation Commission (ECC), founded in 1984, the ECC has received a new lease on life in the form of four additional members. They were appointed by the Town Board at its February 2 meeting, joining incumbent members Roberta Clements, Janet Kern and William Trifilo. The ECC had been placed on hiatus late in 2020 due to the resignation of several members and its resulting inability to achieve a quorum.
The new recruits include Misha Fredericks, Neal Rindlaub, Joan Parker and Michael Hartner. Hartner was appointed to the chairmanship of the ECC at the recommendation of Clements, the former chair.
The current draft of the new law establishing a CAC can be viewed at www.townofgardiner.org/environmental-conservation-commission.
At the same meeting, the Town Board also made appointments to officer positions for the Parks and Recreation Committee. Mike Albright will continue as chair, while two newer members, Ilka Casey and Toni Benevento, will take over the posts of vice chair and recording secretary, respectively.
