Some New Paltz School District residents are calling for the creation of a communications task force or committee, with a charge to create a plan to address what are seen as longstanding issues of transparency and the sharing of information. An online petition to that effect already has the support of a large number of people. Kim Mayer, a member of a coalition of parents organized around the question of how to safely reopen the district, posted the petition and told trustees at their January 20 meeting that creating a “rich and thoughtful” communications plan would improve the sense of community among district stakeholders. Meyer and Amy Hemminger both spoke about the petition during public comment; they were advised by board president Glenn LaPolt that the subject would be part of a future business agenda.
