Kids made Halloween masks at the Saugerties Library last Friday afternoon. The mask-making exercise was followed by “Spooky Tales,” a dramatic reading of stories of the supernatural read by local volunteers in costume. The events are organized through a collaboration of the Saugerties Library and Shout Out Saugerties.
“It has been a wonderful collaboration with the library,” said Suzanne Bennet, the director of Shout Out Saugerties, which has organized a variety of events over the first two weekends in October at the library, including plays, dramatic readings, music and movies on the lawn directly behind the library building.
The lawn sports a border of Rae Stang’s mouse cartoons, featuring mice in their unusual habitats and some in unusual situations. Kids, especially, are drawn to the pictures, Bennet said. “People were so drawn to them when they were posting them on Instagram,” she said. A selection of the mouse posters are on display behind the library.
