Good food, good cause  The seventh Annual Mac and Cheese Bake Off for Angel Food East was held at Keegan Ales on Sunday. There were 33 participants, including professional, amateur and agency categories, and 80 silent auction items that people could choose from to support the group, which brings fresh meals to the homebound. Here Griff, 1, is getting his first taste of mac and cheese by his parents, Josie and Gregory Trefz of Poughkeepsie. (Photo by Phyllis McCabe)

Natural sweetener  The after-school program of Seed Song Farm and the African Roots Center teamed up last Tuesday to teach the science and history of making maple syrup.  Here John White, 8, of Kingston, tastes the sap running from a tapped maple tree while Althea Jayne, 6, of Kingston, holds the bucket. Remembering mortality  Elliott Casas of Kingston receives ashes from Deacon Sue Bonsteel of St. John’s Episcopal Church on Ash Wednesday. The ritual, which begins the Christian season of repentance and fasting known as Lent, is to remind the faithful “from dust you came and to dust you shall return.” (Photo by Phyllis McCabe)
