The Summer Jazz Academy is Jazz at Lincoln Center’s two-week residential high school institute for advanced study in jazz, and is managed by none other than Wynton Marsalis, whose career is a historic trifecta of classical performance, jazz performance and composition and jazz stewardship. When this combination of forces selects a teenaged all-star band and then pairs it with faculty performers, be prepared to be utterly blown away.
The Summer Jazz Academy celebrates the next generation of jazz musicians with two concerts at Bard College: the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra on Saturday, July 28 at 7 p.m. ($55) and the Summer Jazz Academy Big Bands on Sunday, July 29 at 1 p.m. ($15).
