Brian Praetorius, a 2003 graduate of Saugerties High School and a standout on the school’s lacrosse team, has been named the new head coach of Bard College’s men’s lacrosse team.

Praetorius spent the last seven years as the recruiting coordinator and offensive coordinator of the men’s lacrosse team at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, The team made its first appearance in the New England Small School Athletic Conference semifinals and the NCAA Lacrosse Tournament. It achieved number 13 in the national rankings.

While at Saugerties, Praetorius earned All-Section IX honors in his junior and senior year. After Saugerties he went to Herkimer Community College for one year, and then became a walk-on at Western New England College, now Western New England University. He helped the team win two conference titles and made two NCAA tournament appearances. It was ranked third nationally in Division III.

When he graduated from WNEC, Praetorius went back to Saugerties as offensive coordinator for the lacrosse team under coach Bob Slate, and then served as an assistant women’s lacrosse coach at SUNY New Paltz before moving on to Trinity.
