Freight train hits dump truck in Saugerties

(Saugerties Police Department)

A CSX train collided with a dump truck in Saugerties this morning, totaling the truck but sparing the driving any injury.

At 6:34 a.m., Saugerties Police responded to a report of an accident at 892 Kings Highway. (The tracks cross a private road off Kings Highway.) Investigation by police determined that Jhon F. Orozco-Giraldo of Mine Hill, NJ was operating a 2015 Kenmore Tri-Axle dump truck when he failed to stop at a railroad crossing and struck an oncoming CSX locomotive. Although the dump truck sustained extensive damage, Orozco-Giraldo was not injured in the crash. Orozco-Giraldo was issued a traffic summons for failure to stop at the crossing, which is posted in addition to having a Stop sign on both sides of the tracks.

The Mount Marion FD, Centerville Cedar Grove FD, DIAZ Ambulance, DEC Police and the CSX Railroad Police assisted at the scene.
