The status and future of shale gas development in New York State will be the focus of a talk with journalist Tom Wilber, author of “Under the Surface: Fracking, Fortunes and the Fate of the Marcellus Shale,” on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. at the Center for Environmental Innovation and Education at Denning’s Point in Beacon. The conversation will be moderated by Hudson River environmentalist John Cronin. The two will discuss recent developments allowing municipalities to ban fracking (the extraction of gas and oil by drilling horizontal holes through shale rock and breaking it apart with high volume injections of pressurized water, sand and chemicals). Online registration is requested. For more information, call (845) 765-2721.
