Beth Murphy has shown she’ll work for you

If you live in Saugerties, have you noticed that over the past two years you never hear your county legislators talking about what they’ve done for you? Oh, maybe writing a letter to the editor every now and then. But actually doing something for you and your town’s benefit in the County Legislature? No. The reason is that they didn’t do anything for the community before they were elected so why would you expect anything different after they are elected?

If you want a legislator representing you who actually does things then you need to elect someone who is already doing things for you as a volunteer. And that person, running for the legislature in Saugerties District 1, is Beth Murphy. Beth has served four years on the Town of Saugerties Economic Development Committee, two of them as its chair; three years as a member of the county Economic Development Advisory Committee; a volunteer with TV Channel 23 taping Town Board and other local meetings so that you can see how your local government operates even if you can’t attend these meetings yourself. Beth also served as a member of the Town of Saugerties Chamber of Commerce and as a member of the Kiwanis Fourth of July Committee.

Beth and her husband moved to Saugerties more than 20 years ago and made a conscious decision that this is where they wanted to live. If you want someone in the county legislature to really represent you and your needs and get things done, elect someone who is already doing things, as an unpaid volunteer, for her community and her county. Elect Beth Murphy as Saugerties’ District 1 Ulster County Legislator.

Murphy has the experience to be effective

Those of us who live in Legislative District 1 have an opportunity to elect an extraordinarily qualified candidate to represent us in the County Legislature. Beth Murphy’s hands-on experience in economic development cannot be matched by her opponent. Beth served on the town’s Economic Development Committee, including two years as its chair. She served for three years on County Executive Mike Hein’s Economic Development Advisory Committee. She created Saugerties’ first business survey and led the effort that published the first “Discover Saugerties” guide that highlights our businesses and tourist attractions. She worked at IBM for 30 years, during which time she identified new markets for IBM to apply its technology and services to support government and education.

Beth has set her sights on getting good-paying jobs, like 3D printing, to locate in Saugerties and controlling property taxes by working with County Executive Hein to consolidate services, such as the agreement currently in place between our town Highway Department and the county.

Beth has a well-deserved reputation for taking on hard jobs and getting them done. We sure could use a little of that in the Legislature. Vote for Beth Murphy on Nov. 5 and put her to work on our behalf.

Two ego trippers and a solid candidate

This year’s election features George Heidcamp and Gaetana Ciarlante on ego trips. Gaetana originally was going to run for town councilman until George got her ear and convinced her she should run for supervisor. Additionally he promised her the endorsement of the Conservative Party. Gaetana was hoodwinked by George because George was trying to hurt the current supervisor due to some real or imagined slight.

Bill Schirmer ended up with the Republican Party’s endorsement for town councilman. Let me tell you something, Bill Schirmer is one of the best candidates to come along in quite awhile. His campaign has taken the high road, strictly issue-oriented. He should be Saugerties’ next councilman along with Jim Bruno and Kelly Myers as supervisor.

Gaetana, why is it that Saugerties has two SOS groups? Just curious.

Beth Murphy has qualities of a great legislator

Saugerties is most fortunate to have the opportunity to elect Beth Murphy as county legislator for District 1. We are happy to count her as a close friend, one who really listens, cares and shows true compassion and concern towards her friends, her town and her county. She is one of the hardest workers we know and applies intelligence, integrity, experience and efficiency to all she accomplishes. Beth has common sense, communicates well and follows through in everything she undertakes. There is no better candidate for Ulster County Legislature District 1 and we strongly urge Saugerties to take advantage of her many superb qualities and elect Beth Murphy!

Murphy will bring talent and energy to Legislature

I am delighted that Beth Murphy is running for Ulster County Legislature. I have known Beth and her husband Barry almost since they moved to Saugerties. Beth has been active in our community and has shown that she is competent and loves this community. She will bring talent and energy to the Legislature.

Voters that live in the hamlets of West Camp, Asbury, Saxton, Blue Mountain, Centerville, Veteran, High Woods, Quarryville, part of Malden, and West Saugerties have the opportunity to vote for a strong competent woman on Election Day. Please don’t waste this opportunity!

Aiello knows his community

I am writing to show my support for the re-election of Robert Aiello to the Ulster County Legislature. I originally met Mr. Aiello when I needed a requirement filled for my Boy Scout First Class rank. I needed to meet with a member of local government and discuss the constitution. Since Mr. Aiello is my neighbor, I figured that he could help me with the requirement. Instead of talking purely about constitutional rights, we talked about politics and economics for over an hour. This conversation is what spurred my early interest in politics and economics. Because of this interest, I decided to study politics and economics at Ithaca College. I was happy to help Mr. Aiello with some yard work in his time of need as well. I gladly invited Mr. Aiello to my Eagle Scout Ceremony later on. His speech was very moving. I believe that Mr. Aiello should serve another term. I support Mr. Aiello for his reelection, he is a friend and a neighbor.
