At a rally on Main Street, members of the New Paltz community will thank Governor Andrew Cuomo for keeping controversial hydro-fracking out of New York State.

Local citizens of all ages are encouraged to join a celebratory march down Main Street in New Paltz and sign a thank-you note to Governor Andrew Cuomo for keeping New York free from the controversial extraction of natural gas, known as horizontal hydro-fracking. Sponsored by New Paltz Climate Action Coalition, the rally will take place Saturday, July 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (rain date Sunday, July 28.)

Rosalyn Cherry, a member of CAC who visited Pennsylvania last year with a group from the Hudson Valley, witnessed both the environmental and social degradation from hydro-fracking, including water contaminated by toxic chemicals, dangerous increases in heavy truck traffic and the industrialization of rural communities. “It’s a sad story in Pennsylvania — all to benefit the big oil and gas corporations,” Cherry said.

Individuals and families are invited to march up and down lower Main Street, wear festive hats and costumes, play musical instruments and carry free balloons saying “I Love Frack-Free NY.” Rally headquarters will be on the lawn near Rock and Snow.

For more information, contact Ann Guenther at 255-9297.
