A hot soak – without getting soaked

Now that summer is over, it’s difficult to find a place to swim locally. And oh, how relaxing it is to take a swim in a heated indoor pool when the temperatures are falling outside. The Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa in Milton has the answer to this quandary: a Buttermilk Spa Water Pass, good for a day of leisure enjoying all the water elements at the Spa, including the glass-enclosed indoor heated swimming pool and use of the sauna and steam facilities. Use of the requisite robes, slippers and towels is also included.

Water Passes are available Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. A day pass for one costs $35, or $50 for a couple. A monthly pass is available for $200, or $350 for a couple (not including taxes).

“For some reason, a lot of people in the area think we’re a private club,” says Shelley Clark, spokesperson for Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa. Not true, she says, adding that the establishment even gives a ten percent discount to locals for any spa treatment or services, even on the weekends. If you have a photo ID showing that you live within our reading area, you’re a local.

The indoor pool has a wall of windows around it overlooking the grounds and the river, says Clark, and has an enclosed pool deck inside, as well as an outside deck for lounging. After you have a swim or a spa treatment, she suggests, you can extend the relaxation by taking a walk on the 70-acre grounds, finding yourself a tree to sit under and read, or maybe to visit the “ever-growing herd of alpacas and llamas that [Buttermilk’s owner] Bob Pollock has rescued from all over the country,” says Clark. They have miniature donkeys, too, as well as peacocks, goats and chickens.

The Spa is housed in an eco-friendly structure that utilizes solar and geothermal energy for heating and cooling and to power the sauna and steam rooms. All of the products used for the Spa’s menu of treatments are completely natural and organic, some house-made with ingredients grown on the property’s 40-acre organic Millstone Farm, or harvested from the beehives.

If you go to the Spa on the weekend, Henry’s at the Farm, the restaurant on-site, offers a special spa menu Friday through Sunday that can be enjoyed on the pool or outdoor decks.

Water Passes entitling visitors to use of the indoor heated swimming pool, sauna and steam facilities are available at Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. A day pass for one is $35, or $50 for a couple. A monthly pass is available for $200, or $350 for a couple (not including taxes). Local residents will receive a ten percent discount on all spa products and services seven days a week. Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa is located at 220 North Road in Milton. For more information, call (845) 795-1310, e-mail info@buttermilkfallsinn.com or visit www.buttermilkspa.com.
