With sadness and a heavy heart I am writing on behalf of my family to say that the recent fire on Feb. 17 occurred at the house of my parents, Ahmad and Shirlee Haffar at 20 Holland Lane. Fortunately, there was no one at the house at the time of the fire and no one was hurt, but much was lost just the same. The support and concern of our friends and neighbors has been wonderful and is helping us work past this sad incident.
For those of you who know my mother and father and have not seen them in a while you should know that my mother is in late-stage Alzheimer’s and is in residence at CareOne at Hamilton in New Jersey, 1660 Whitehorse-Hamilton Square Road, Hamilton NJ 08690. She can take cards, but not phone calls. My father has taken up residence nearby in order to care for and comfort my mother at this difficult time; his current mailing address is 628 Valley Stream Circle, Langhorne, PA 19053.
The length of their absence from New Paltz has been very much a surprise and was not planned for. The specific nature of my mother’s condition is such that we could not find adequate care locally and decided to place her in close proximity to my younger brother Warren and near Princeton where my parents began their married lives together. She is getting excellent care.
We are all deeply appreciative of the concern from the community and this note is an attempt to say thank you to all and to reach out to those who do not have e-mail or have not connected the address to our family. It is still our intention that my father returns to New Paltz and perhaps my mother as well. All the Haffar children are reachable on Facebook
