Project Linus initiative at Gardiner Library

Gardiner Library’s Slow Stitch Club recently started to participate in the Project Linus Initiative. The Project Linus organization distributes handmade sewn, knitted or crocheted blankets to children in need.

Donations to Gardiner Library will be distributed within Ulster County. Blankets can be dropped off at Gardiner Library during regular open hours. For additional information, call 845-255-1255 or visit www.gardinerlibrary.org.

New Paltz composters

The public compost bins at the New Paltz Community Center’s pollinator paradise garden are back, adorned with signs provided by the Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency (UCRRA). Now rules will be clearer and easier to follow. The system will be “by permit only.” Pick up your free permit and free informational booklets (provided by UCRRA and Cornell Cooperative Extension) at the Community Center or by calling recreation at 845-255-2512. Permit holders can stay informed about composting workshops and compost turning events.

Plutarch church to hold apple fest

The Plutarch United Methodist Church will be holding its apple fest on Sunday, October 20 from 1 to 4 p.m., rain or shine.  Homemade soups and a variety of apple desserts will be served.  Take-out orders will be available.

The church is located at 10 Black Creek Road in Highland For additional information or directions, contact Laura at 845-255-5334.

Volunteers needed in New Paltz

The Town of New Paltz is looking for volunteers to serve on the bike-ped committee, environmental conservation board, ethics board, planning board (two alternate positions), police commission, public access committee and the zoning board of appeals. Interested parties may submit a letter of interest and resume to the supervisor’s office at P.O. Box 550, New Paltz, NY 12561 or email assistant@townofnewpaltz.org.

Used book and media sale at the Sojourner Truth Library

The Friends of the Sojourner Truth Library at SUNY New Paltz will be hosting another “monster sale” of gently used books and media on Wednesday, October 23 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the foyer and entrance area of the Sojourner Truth Library on the SUNY campus.

On offer are thousands of books on all subjects and for all ages, DVDs, CDs, vinyl LPs, audio books and sheet music. Almost all books are priced at $2 or less. This year the Friends are also offering a limited number of $5 bargain bundles, as well as several shelves of collectable, antiquarian and semi-rare books.

The sale will continue inside the library, from 9 a.m. October 24 through noon November 1.

The public is invited, but in order to park legally on campus, visitors need a $3 day pass, available using a credit card at several locations on campus (see https://www.newpaltz.edu/parking/ for a campus map and parking information). Alternatively, patrons can park off campus and walk to the Library.

Proceeds from the sale support collection development and educational programming at the Sojourner Truth Library.
